The code is in a package so go one directory above the *.class file and use the java command.
java chap01/BeerSong on UNIX
java chap01BeerSong on Windows I believe
Chapter 17 explains packages. Or just comment out the package label and recompile the code.
This answers the question below also.

Hi Michael, this is a great question for the <a href="http://forums.oreilly.com/forum/51-head-first-html/" rel="nofollow">book forum</a>! Also, I've <a href="http://wickedlysmart.com/2012/reader-question-how-to-look-at-the-computed-style-of-an-element/" rel="nofollow">posted your question on the blog</a> and explained how to look at computed styles using the inspector, although it sounds like you've already tried that.

I have a question, and don't know where else to ask. When troubleshooting CSS issues, how can I determine the source of a style that is applied to an element? I have even set the property as !important, and it is still being overridden somewhere. I have tried Firebug and Chrome Inspector, and still not any closer to finding the culprit. If you could send me a response to michael at michaelsheaver.com, it would be much appreciated!

Hello All, First, I want to thank you for you hard work in making head first java. However, I feel bad when the first program you asked me to compile could not run because it lacks main method. I think(in my opinion) that it will be better if the first program could generate the desired result stated there.

Thank you.

Hi Babi,
The JSON file should display if you load it from localhost; if it doesn't then something's wrong with your localhost or the URL and will cause the XMLHttpRequest to fail. Which page are you specifically having problems with? You must have the JSON file in the same domain as you are using to serve your web pages. Check the URL again...

Thanks for your comment, we do rush through the JavaScript a bit. We were really torn about whether to assume programming experience for this book, and decided to try to teach a little JavaScript before getting to the HTML5 stuff, but obviously didn't have room to do an expansive job.

We're hoping to start a series of JavaScript tutorials on this blog. In the meantime, check out <a href="http://elisabethrobson.com/?p=879" rel="nofollow">my post</a> on "incrementing variables" which might help a bit.

Hi Alan,
You're right! Java and JavaScript are not at all related. It's unfortunate that the name often leads people to think that they are.

JavaScript will definitely feel "unstructured" to someone coming from Java, partly because it's an dynamically typed (and weakly typed) interpreted language, partly because the prototypal inheritance is so different from Java's object-oriented approach, and partly because it's a scripting language and so used for more "informal" projects. All that said, it's a powerful language and when used correctly can be used to create large, object-based projects.

Let us know how you get on in your endeavor to keep learning it. We are hoping to start a series for learning JavaScript on this blog soon!
